The Radlett Under 9 boys concluded their 2024 season with a resounding success, showcasing significant progress and unwavering enthusiasm throughout. Competing in both Group 3 and Group 4 of the HCJL, the young cricketers demonstrated a strong commitment to learning and mastering the game of cricket.
A Season of Triumphs:
The season saw 40 Under 9s and Under 8s players participate in 34 matches, achieving an impressive win-rate of 27 wins to just 7 losses! In the tough Group 3, the team secured a first-place finish. In Group 4, Radlett's two teams achieved a commendable second and third place ranking, narrowly missing the top spot by a mere 3 points.
Highlights of the Season:
Abbots Langley (16th July): A thrilling victory in the return leg against Abbots Langley, pulling off a nail-biting win by just 1 run! With the opposition ahead by 6 runs in the final over, two crucial wickets turned the tide in Radlett's favour.
West Herts (9th June): A dominant performance in the return leg against our main Group 3 competitor, West Herts, resulting in a 50-run victory. Exceptional bowling and fielding, with 11 wickets claimed, proved instrumental in this win.
OACC 2 (2nd July): A clinical display in all areas of the game against the eventual Group 4 topper, OACC 2. The team secured a comfortable 35-run victory.

Areas for Continued Growth:
Despite the incredible success, there are always opportunities for improvement:
Batting: Focus on match awareness, playing under pressure, running between wickets, and conserving wickets by avoiding unnecessary risks.
Bowling: Accuracy is key, aiming for pitching up to the batsman and minimizing wides and no-balls.
Fielding: Improving fielding accuracy and positioning, honing catching skills, and developing judgment for when to hold the ball and when to attempt a run-out, importance of backing up the bowler and wicketkeeper.
Looking Ahead:
The Radlett U9s concluded their season with a strong foundation built on teamwork, sportsmanship, and developing a passion for cricket. A number of parents (including me) have mentioned that their boys are now performing bowling action as a reflex as they walk across a room! They are now set to transition to hard ball cricket in the next season, a challenge they are ready to embrace.
In the end, thanks to all the parents for their continuous support, to my co-managers for their dedication and organisation, and to the club for its invaluable backing. Here's to another exciting season filled with growth and success!
